The Gallleriapiù in Bologna presents this month an exceptional project: a live streaming where the public can follow the artist Giulia Bonora in cooking sculptures.
Giulia takes her inspiration from an Italian recipe box of the sixties of the last century. That implies just that the recipes are simple, but tasty and have nothing to do with the modern ideas of healthy or experimental food: they are traditional.
For every live streaming Giulia chooses one of the recipes and replaces the aliments by durable elements, so that she can create a long-lasting sculpture. During the live streaming the visitors can ask questions, comment the process and communicate directly with the artist.
I’ve participated at the creation of the “Spaghetti all’Amatriciana”. It’s a traditional recipe from the small town Amatrice in the mountains of the Abruzzo. Nevertheless the dish found its way through the rest of Italy, partially modified. The main ingredients are spaghetti, tomatoes, streaky bacon and Pecorino cheese. Giulia took spaghetti made of yellow paper and red wax, where she cooked the spaghetti in. Red liquorice spaghetti replaced the bacon. After the public demanded as well the Pecorino, she took some white wax and grated it over the finished sculpture. At the end everyone was hungry!
The nice spaghetti sculpture and all the other created sculptures will be presented at the end of the project in the Gallleriapiù during a special finissage. At the moment you can see there some of Giulia’s previous food sculptures made of ceramic and you can still participate to four more live streamings.
