In the twelve months, we presented artworks of the month by artists from seven different countries. Besides Italy, Germany and France, we were happy to present creations from Switzerland, Cuba, Guatemala and Spain. Furthermore, we reviewed numerous exhibitions and visited new exhibition spaces in Bologna. We have been at four Italian art fairs and at Christo and Jeanne-Claude’s installation on the Lake Iseo. Additionally, we interviewed a Cuban artist about one of his photo series.
January
January was for ARTIFICIALIS female dominated: Our first steps into 2016 were escorted by
Monique Thibaudin’s pacing anti-bust “Forme Hybride” (Hybrid Form).
Later we went to the exhibition “Frida Kahlo” at the Gallery ONO Arte Contemporanea, with photos by Leo Matiz.
Then we looked back to the 56th International Art Exhibition in Venice with “Three female artist participations”.
February
Petra Warras contributed her photo “Wo es ist # 7” (Where it is # 7) as artwork of the month February.
In the course of the month we reported from the packed program of the Bologna Art Week. We wrote about the 40th edition of the Arte Fiera, the SetUp Contemporary Artfair, exhibitions, which opened before the White Night and our promenade during the White Night.
March
Supported by an untitled painting by Ingeborg zu Schleswig-Holstein as artwork of the month, we travelled “Deep down inside the Color”.
Furthermore, we inspected urban traces with Gianni Mantovani at the Galleria B4.
In the Autostazione di Bologna 16 artists payed tribute to their former teacher Concetto Pozzati
… and a new exhibition space “Tripla” opened in the heart of the city.
A promenade at the river was suggested by the artist Valentina D’Accardi and ABC Arte Bologna Cultura.
April
Betty Zanelli invited us with the photo “Landschaft” (Landscape) into the mysterious world of the abandoned Spreepark in Berlin.
At the Galleria De’Foscherari we saw the creations by Piero Manai and Luigi Presicce, both inspired by James Ensor’s “Self-portrait with masks.
Iulia Gabriela Toma & Claudiu Cobilanschi greeted Varvara Stephanova at the Gallleriapiù.
We had been at the Milanese art fair MIART
… and travelled in to the world of the Dutch painter Hieronymus Bosch (c. 1450 – 1516) and the contemporary artist Giovanna Caimmi, presented by ABC Arte Bologna Cultura.

We greeted the spring with Irene Kung’s photo “Flowering Apple Tree, EXPO 2015” as artwork of the month.
In parallel, some artists where busy with questioning our principles of order. Adiacenze allowed Irene Fenera to let the sky escape and turn their new exhibition room upside down,
… whereas Alberto Zilocchi gave new rules to the world of formulas in the exhibition “Reliefs and Lines” at the Spazio Testoni.
However, the artist duo PetriPaselli tried at CACCA to explore how people keep in view what is missing during their daily shopping.
June
A light pre-taste of summer gave Giovanna Sarti with her drawing “Blue Ink” as artwork of the month.
But before the summer break Irene Angenica and Davide Da Pieve started the first edition of their project “Porto dell’Arte” (Harbour of Art). They invited Paolo Bufalini to pass their apartment through a “Metamorphosis”.
July
For his 81st birthday Christo offered himself “The Floating Piers” by Christo & Jeanne-Claude at the Lake Iseo
… and the Academy of Fine Arts of Bologna went with its students into art galleries on OPENTOUR.
August
Summer break
September
Already in June Maria Savoldi negated the rules of gravity in her site-specific installation at Meccaniche Ceruti in Brescia. We made it artwork of the month in September.
October
After the summer break, the gallery P420 started the new season by “Washing Up” with Helene Appel.
The Cuban artist Alejandro González re-constructed Cuban history in a photo series. We met him in Havana and talked with him about its first chapter.
Also our artwork of October came from Cuba. With “Heavenly Gossips”, we immersed in Martha Jiménez world of voluptuous women.
November
For the artwork of November, we stayed a little bit longer in Latin America. Karla Higueros from Guatemala offered the painting “Calentamiento de la Tierra” (Global Warming) to invite us to change our attitudes facing the climate and social changes of our time.
Then we went back to Italy and visited the art fair Artissima in Torino.
December
We accompanied Karla Acuna Vela with her camera to the “Cementerio de la Almudena” in Madrid, were she took the photo “Sentimientos Anónimos IV” (Anonymous Feelings IV). With this artwork of the month, the artist wants to involve the observer into a reflection about the mystery of life.
